Abbot ( khenpo)

Abbot is the Chief Priest and head of the Monastery, in spiritual and General Administration.

 

He is appointed for a term of seven years, by a particular system prevailing in the Monastic tradition. His appointment is preceded by a formal & characteristic monastic system, where some (about 5 in no) of the most eligible senior & learned monks of the Monastery are short-listed by the General Board Members. The selected candidate will henceforth take the Abbotship of the Monastery for the full service term of 7 years.

Chant Master:

The Chant Master is directly appointed by the Abbot (Khenpo). He must be of good voice, excellent in chants and well informed of the common and uncommon chants of the monastic college. He should possess qualities such as gracefulness. The Chant Master bears the responsibility of keeping the common and uncommon chants of the monastic alive during the prayers. He also takes the responsibility of teaching the art of chanting to the junior monks who are good in prayers and whose voices are good. The Chant Master’s term is not fixed.

Administrator:

Just like the Disciplinarian, five bursars are selected through election by the students of Madhyamika and above classes. No less than eight bursars are selected in each term. The term for the bursars is 4 years. The main responsibilities of the bursars are to find the financial necessities for the sustenance of the monks of the monastic.

They are responsible for keeping continuous contact with the benefactors of the monastic school, receiving important guests to the monastic school and administering all the sections under them. They are also responsible for summoning meetings of the Abbot (khanpo),
