History of Monastery
Geyje norling monks at 1999 and 2006,
500 years ago a Tibetan monk arrived in the Mon Tawang area in Arunachal Pradesh building many monasteries, among them ZANGLUM GEYJE NORLING. It was constructed by Tibetan monks, who lived there during more than 300 years and although liveg conditions were very precarious and the poverty invaded the whole place, in the monastery they continued their studies and practices.
Since about 150 years ago most of monks living there moved to others monasteries que to the material difficulties to continue live in the monastery, remaining in it others persons coming from close villages who also were practioners of Tibetan buddism.
Some 25 years ago (in 1985), the Venerable Gelong Rinchen Tsering installed himself in the monastery givivg it a boost.During these years, and due to his great compassion and kindness, his activity, both as a Dharma master and as a doctor and astrologer, was endless and of great benefit for all the inhabitants of the different villages. He gave many teachings about Tibetan buddism and about Tibetan medician or astrologer giving rise little by little to the arrival of new monks who settlet in the monastery,
He was a resl Mantra Lineage holder and an actual Dharma jewel, and passed away in 2008, leaving all the villages unprotected and without refuge. In 1999 the Venerable Gelong Rinchen Tsering ideated a plan to reinvigorate the monastery and become a place for study and practice as well as to provide for the studies necesites of the neighboring villages. His students, among them the Venerable Lama Jampa, the Venerable H.E. Lotok Tulku Jangchup Pelsang, the Venerable Geshe Lobsang Tendar, Venerable Jampa Norbu and Venerable Jampa Chophel, taked on the responsibility to carry out their master´s plans. They consulted about the plan to rebuild the old installations of the monastery with H.H. the Dalai Lama who granted his support. Also the authorities of Arunachal Pradesh were consulted and they gave their approval and the permission to carry out the plans giving the name GEYJE NORLING MONASTERY WELFARE SOCIETY. Nowadays all of them collaborate in the best possible way for the reconstruction of the monastery, becaues its antiquity can easily be seen in the pictures, and for the 52 resident monks and several other boys and girls sended to several school in other different places, so they can be sustained in their basic needs and be able to continue their studies and in this way sustain a Dharma lineage so beneficial to all living beings. In 2009, and after consulting with H.H. the Dalai Lama, the monastery has been moved to a location that meets better conditions.
